The 90-year-old Regent Centre in Christchurch, Dorset, will reopen in November after closing in March due to the pandemic.
The charity run independent cinema has been returned to its 1930s glory with a £350,000 lockdown refurbishment. The work, which began in June, was funded through a ticket levy – £1 from each ticket sold in the last three years has been set aside for the upgrade.
General manager Matthew Vass-White said: “We had been planning the project in the 12 months leading up to the closure.

So good to hear on BBC radio the other day that a cinema is reopening. And by people who love and appreciate classical Hollywood Cinema and the legacy owe to it. If it weren’t for Covid I’d be down for Meet Me In St Louis. My friend has moved to Christchurch and if in the future you show Show Boat (either version) or Mildred Pierce we might come down from London especially. Really happy for you and hope things work out for you.
