Two Riversmeet wheel park Christchurch refurbishment0
The wheel park at Two Riversmeet Leisure Complex, opened in September 2005, is to undergo refurbishment this summer.
The work is needed due to its popularity and the heavy use by skaters, BMX bikers and other users which has taken its toll on the facility. Refurbishment, which will start on 18 June, will see the installation of a new concrete base and a variety of stainless steel ramps and rails using a skatelite surface.
Plans are being undertaken in consultation with users of the wheel park to determine their preferred design which will create a better flow and alternative elements. The aim is to provide a site that will cater for all wheeled sports, including skates, BMX bikes, scooters and rollerblades, and will suit all abilities from the novice to the more experienced.
Three specialist contractors will be involved in this project and they aim to be on site for approximately five to six weeks, although this is weather-dependent.
This work will not affect use of the synthetic turf pitches or BMX pump track.
It is hoped to formally re-open the wheel park on Saturday 20 July with the Christchurch SkateJam 2013 organised by the Christchurch Play Rangers.
