Stanpit Marsh Nature Reserve Christchurch Bioblitz Event

Stanpit Marsh Nature Reserve in Christchurch Dorset are hosting a Bioblitz event on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May.

A Bioblitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a 24 hour period. Through a series of guided walks an intensive field study of the reserve will be conducted to help scientists and naturalists add to their knowledge of the marsh.

Members of the public are invited to come along to some or all of the events over the weekend to help add to the wildlife inventory for the marsh.

Events start with a wildlife photography session at 8am on Saturday 25 May and continue throughout the day with sessions on plants, birds and invertebrates on the marsh. Evening sessions look at dusk birds, bats and moths found here and the day finishes at 10pm with a smuggling history walk.

Sunday events start early with a dawn chorus birds and breakfast session at 6am and continue at 9am with the opening of the previous night’s moth trap and a session on small mammal trapping.

Each walk or workshop costs £3 but an all-day event pass costs just £10.
