Potterne Park BMX and skate park extension opened

An extension to the popular BMX and skate park at Potterne Park in Verwood has been opened by Cllr Lucy Clark as one of her last public engagements as the chairman of East Dorset District Council.

The extension has been added to the existing bowl which was installed in 2004 and further developed in 2009 with flood lighting, seating and a purpose built dirt track for off-road BMX biking.

Consultation with the users of the facility identified an opportunity to further develop the park. Following successful grants amounting to £65,000 from the Heathland Mitigation Fund, East Dorset District PACT (Partners and Communities Together) and Synergy Housing Association, the work to build the extension was awarded to the local company, ‘1 Skateparks’.

The site was designed by Marc Churchill and it now caters for beginner riders but also provides opportunities for users of all ages and abilities in an urban street style park. There is also an integral youth shelter situated under the jump over there, LED feature lighting and a speaker system so users can play their own music.
