Dorset County Council National Carers Week0
National Carers Week runs from 10 – 16 June, 2013. The week will focus on how the UK’s current carer population is coping, how effectively they are being supported, the growing numbers of carers, and whether the wider population is prepared for future caring responsibilities.
This year’s theme is Prepared to Care? and the week will highlight the impact of caring on daily life and, with an ageing population and higher incidence of disability and serious illness, encourage the public to think whether they could manage a caring role.
The campaign will also highlight support available for carers to make sure they are accessing all the practical and emotional support they need to care safely and look after themselves. Some 2,000 organisations will be involved in over 10,000 Carers Week Prepared to Care? events.
National Carers Week takes place every year to recognise and celebrate the 6.5 million people throughout the UK caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend who is ill, frail or has a disability.
The council also employ a number of carers’ caseworkers to provide emotional support and help carers plan how they will manage the task ahead of them. These workers are available to support the carer whether the cared for person receives a service or not.
If you are not receiving support in your caring role and are not sure what to do next, contact the Adult Access Team, Dorset Direct, 01305 221016 Email: email@example.com
