Christchurch public asked to comment on Druitt Hall plans0
Christchurch Borough Council are asking the public to comment on proposals for a new Druitt Hall.
An outline planning application for a new hall has been submitted to the council by the Druitt Hall Association Ltd and the application can be viewed on the Council’s website or in person at the Civic Offices in Bridge Street. Comments can be made until 11 June 2013.
A previous planning application for a replacement to the existing hall, which was constructed in the 1950s, was put forward by Christchurch Community Partnership in 2008. The Partnership worked to raise funds for the construction of the new hall but the difficult economic situation meant that sufficient funds were not forthcoming, so this project will no longer be pursued.
The Council proposed closing the existing hall earlier this year as part of plans to improve access to Druitt Gardens, but a group of supporters of the hall came forward, along with a benefactor, aiming to retain the hall until a replacement could be built.
The supporters formed themselves into the Druitt Hall Association Ltd (DHAL) and have been working closely with the Council to develop plans to retain a community facility in the centre of Christchurch.
