Christchurch children’s centre announce young parents activities and extra support

Expectant parents and young mums and dads aged 21 and under are being encouraged to come along with their children to try out free, informal drop-in sessions at Christchurch children’s centre, each Thursday from 1pm-3pm.

The drop-ins give young parents the chance to meet other young families and the opportunity to take part in parenting-skills training, while their children can play in a safe and fun environment.

Activities include messy play, picnics, home safety workshops, cookery sessions and baby first aid. Each year a fun-packed family day out is arranged for all the young parents and their children.

In addition to the activities at Christchurch children’s centre, young parent antenatal sessions are being run at Somerford children’s centre in partnership with Bournemouth midwives. These are enjoyable, informal sessions which cover labour, birth, pain relief and the first few days of being a new parent.

Somerford children’s centre also runs a ‘young parents-to-be’ accredited course each Monday that helps develop the knowledge, understanding and skills required to bring up a baby. Local midwives and health visitors will help in delivering the course.

For further information about the drop-in sessions, the young parents-to-be course or the young parent antenatal sessions please telephone 01202 221337, 07917 587511 or visit the family information service web pages on
