Christchurch and East Dorset councils announce proposed CIL rates

Christchurch and East Dorset councils have launched a consultation on their community infrastructure levy (CIL).

The Community Infrastructure Levy is a locally set charge on development that authorities can choose to introduce to charge on new developments in their area, based on the size and type of development. The funds are then used to provide infrastructure which is required to support new development in the area.

The PDCS (11-page / 302KB PDF) sets out proposals for a charge of £100 per square metre for residential developments within both Councils. For care homes, the proposed charge is £40 per sq m.

For convenience retail developments, the proposed rate is £110 per sq m and a zero rate levy is proposed for comparison retail developments.

A proposed zero rate levy will apply to all other types of development.

The consultation will be open until 11 March.
